THE EMMA FROST SERIES: PART EIGHT
*May contain spoilers.*

The Series ~~> [link]

#1 – Emma Frost from the very cool WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN cartoon. It’s just the same outfit she wore in the comics with the X logo added to the top. I believe Emma may also show more cleavage than any previously animated character on Nickelodeon. Character-wise, Emma is pretty much the same, snotty and arrogant but with balls. Her voice is kind of strange, though. She comes on board after Xavier and Jean Grey disappear when the mansion explodes, and is helping use Cerebro to find them. Later it is revealed that Emma and the Cukoos actually caused Jean to go Phoenix and blow everything to hell, and that she was the one who took Xavier’s body afterwards. Emma is working for the Hellfire Club to capture the Phoenix, though she thinks she is doing this for the greater good while the Hellfire dudes actually plan to use the Phoenix for the not-so-good. Emma ultimately takes the Phoenix into herself, turning into her diamond form so Cyclops, who she has fallen in love with (of course), can save Jean and then releases the Phoenix by blowing herself the hell up, thus saving the day and apparently killing Emma. Have I mentioned how much I seriously love this show? Because it really does my heart good to see Emma blasted into a billion sparkly pieces.

#2 – Emma Frost from the ULTIMATE X-MEN series, aka Earth 1610. I forget which issue Ultimate Emma debuted in. In this reality Emma is a former student and romantic interest of Charles Xavier. She has taken a more passive stance on mutant/human issues, and works with the government to start a New Mutants team out of her own school in Chicago, the Academy of Tomorrow. I don’t know much else about her in this reality, except Comicvine says she dies, with pretty much everybody else, in the ULTIMATUM storyline. Ultimate Emma is more conservative and considerably less skanky then her 616 counterpart.

#3 – Emma Frost from 1995’s huge-normous crossover event, THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE. Emma is a mutant but has her telepathy lobotomized and joins the Human High Council, which also saves her from being culled like other telepaths. At some point Comicvine says she leads a strike force against Apocalypse with Captain Britain and Mariko Yashida. I don’t know in which book this happens. The version of this costume I’ve included is very ugly. My reference was the AGE OF APOCALYPSE: THE CHOSEN sourcebook. Since completing the series I have seen this outfit represented as blue and red, which is the one I would’ve gone with had I seen it earlier.

That’s all I have for now. The series will probably continue, as the others have, when I get around to finding more references.

(On a slightly related note, has anyone else seen the promo art for the newest ASTONISHING X-MEN series and thrown up a little? It’s maybe the worst shit I’ve ever seen. I really hope it’s a joke.)

To be continued…
